The NEMO European Museum Conference, organised by the Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO), is set to take place from 11–13 October 2026 in Vilnius, Lithuania. This annual flagship event brings together museum professionals, cultural heritage experts and cross-sector stakeholders from across Europe to address pressing challenges and opportunities within the museum sector.
With its longstanding tradition as one of Europe’s most influential gatherings for museum practice and policy, the NEMO European Museum Conference will feature inspiring panel discussions, interactive workshops, thematic study visits and extensive networking opportunities. Participants will explore contemporary issues facing museums — including institutional roles in society, innovative engagement strategies, and the future of cultural organisations in dynamic social contexts.
The conference builds on the success of recent editions, such as the 2025 programme “Who cares? Museums, wellbeing, and resilience”, which convened over 300 delegates in Horsens, Denmark to explore the transformative role of museums in supporting mental health, wellbeing and community resilience. Discussions emphasised cross-sector collaboration between cultural institutions and health sectors, spotlighting case studies and forward-looking approaches to embedding wellbeing in museum practice.
As part of its core mission, NEMO fosters professional exchange, policy dialogue and collaborative action across national museum associations and organisations. The European Museum Conference remains a critical platform for advancing knowledge, strengthening networks and enhancing the impact of museums in public life throughout Europe.
