14 - 16 October - MetroArchaeo 2026: International Conference on Metrology for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage

MetroArchaeo 2026, an international scientific conference focused on metrology applied to archaeology, cultural heritage research and conservation, will be held in Bari, Italy, from 14 to 16 October 2026. The event gathers researchers, heritage scientists, technicians and professionals from academia, research centres and industry to share advances in measurement science, analytical techniques and data interpretation that underpin the study and preservation of archaeological and cultural heritage materials.

MetroArchaeo, supported by an international scientific committee, addresses the fundamental role of metrology — the science of measurement — in cultural heritage diagnostics, characterization, interpretation and preservation. The conference programme is designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and showcase cutting‑edge metrological approaches across a wide spectrum of topics relevant to heritage science and archaeological investigation.

Participants will explore a rich array of subjects including methodologies and measurements for diagnostics and conservation, geomatics and digital recording, non‑destructive analytical techniques, 3D modelling, metrology in landscape archaeology, archaeometry, bioarchaeological measurements, computer science applications and digital heritage data management. A series of special sessions will highlight focused themes such as advanced imaging techniques, 3D semantic enrichment and digital tools for heritage documentation.

The conference also provides a platform for peer‑reviewed scientific exchange, offering researchers the opportunity to present extended abstracts and full papers, which may be published in the official IMEKO MetroArchaeo Proceedings and, subject to quality and relevance, in peer‑reviewed journals.

Set against the vibrant cultural and historical backdrop of Bari, a city renowned for its rich heritage and Mediterranean identity, MetroArchaeo 2026 invites delegates to engage with both the scientific programme and the city’s unique cultural landscape.

Conference Topics include:

  • Metrological approaches for diagnostics and conservation
  • Geomatics and digital heritage recording
  • Non‑destructive analytical techniques
  • 3D recording and modelling for cultural heritage
  • Metrology in written, visual and architectural heritage
  • Bioarchaeology, archaeometry and material analysis
  • Computer science applications and metadata management

(…and more aimed at advancing rigorous measurement science in archaeology and heritage research).
